About Risa Chalfin
Risa Chalfin, an experienced trial attorney, focuses her practice on complex commercial litigation matters. She handles all aspects of litigation from inception through appeal before state, chancery, and federal courts. Based on her depth of experience, Risa is a trusted advocate for her clients. She has extensive experience in matters arising from partnership and shareholder disputes.
Her approach to litigation and conflict resolution is informed by her experience and her ability to guide clients to resolve disputes most efficiently. Risa regularly works with clients from the initial pleading stage of litigation through resolution. She has broad experience with the New Jersey Appellate Division, handling cases from briefing through argument.
In addition, Ms. Chalfin often speaks for CLE seminars sponsored by the New Jersey State Bar Association, Middlesex County Bar Association, and Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. She has been selected for inclusion in the New Jersey Rising Stars list, published by Super Lawyers® and issued by Thompson Reuters, each year since 2015. Prior to joining Norris McLaughlin, Ms. Chalfin practiced at a large, multi-disciplinary firm in New Jersey. She was a member of the firm’s Political Contributions Committee, advising members and clients on the implications of contributions according to local and state pay-to-play ordinances. She was a law clerk to the Honorable Glenn Berman, Chancery Division, New Jersey Superior Court, from 2011-2012. During her term, Judge Berman presided over the highly publicized State v. Ravi trial, which addressed the issue of bias intimidation and cyberbullying of Rutgers University students.
Actively engaged in the legal community, Ms. Chalfin is a Trustee of Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, serves on the General Council of the New Jersey State Bar Association, and is an Editor of the New Jersey State Bar Foundation’s Legal Eagle, Law-Related Education Committee. She served as a Trustee of the Middlesex County Bar Association from 2013 to 2020 and currently sits on its Chancery Practice Committee. She is also a member of the New Jersey Women Lawyers Association and the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey.
Risa Chalfin received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2011 and her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. Involved in her alumni networks, she interviews prospective students for the University of Pennsylvania. While attending law school, she interned for the Honorable Barry T. Albin, Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court, New York County Defender Services, and the National Football League. In her spare time, Risa enjoys running, reading, the New York Yankees, and the Oregon Ducks.
